What causes Acne?

Acne is mostly caused by overactivity of the sebaceous glands in the skin. It is not infectious, so you cannot get it from another person. But it can be hereditary. That means the condition can pass through genes.

Sebaceous glands under the skin surface make a certain type of oil called as sebum. This sebum keeps the skin which keeps skin agile. The sebum comes out through pores which is present in the skin.

Certatin factors like hormonal changes, especially at puberty, stimulate the sebaceous glands, which tends to produce more sebum than usual. That is why acne is commonly seen in teenagers. When pores get blocked this sebum gets trapped under the skin and starts accumulating collects under pores there by causing pimples or acne to occur.

Depending upon how it looks and how severe it is Acne can be categorised into 4 stages or phases usually called as 4 stages of acne. The causes and approach towards the treatment for each stage is different hence one should be aware about the type and stage of Acne he is in.

But Nevertheless there are certain basic habits and routine which can help to reduce the chance of appearing a getting Acne

How do we prevent getting Acne?

  • Diet and food
  • Avoid eating excessive amounts of chocolates, sugary foods
  • Avoid eating or drinking excessive amounts of dairy products
  • Avoid stress, practice relaxation techniques, have a good nights sleep
  • Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated, dehydrated body signals the skin to produce oil to keep it moisturized

Exercise and Meditation

  • Proper personal hygiene – Wash hair regularly to prevent dandruff, keep skin clean

  • Avoid skincare products that contains oil which can clog the pores.
  • Use quality creams and makeup products which suits your skin type
  • After using make up cleanse the face well
  • Avoid using greasy creams as it can block pores

Self-control

  • Refrain from popping or picking at pimples, it may be tempting but it usually in inflammation and scarring
  • Don’t panic if you get a pimple – because that will only worsen the issue. Be patient and look for the treatment plan for acne.

Sensitive Skin

Acne treatment for sensitive skin may differ a little from the normal routine for acne treatment and one has to take extra care. Though it is a little harder but can be controlled using proper instructions and persistent care.

One should avoid harsh products that can be a scrub, exfoliates, Makeup product, Soap, etc. One should not try too many treatment products at once.

Until you know how your skin reacts, introduce any new skin care product slowly and carefully.
